Vietnam’s first private firm-invested 500 kV line reaches completion [free access]

September 30, 2020

Trung Nam Construction Investment Corporation (Trung Nam Group), one of the leading private power developers in Vietnam, recently completed the construction of the 500/220 kV substation and power transmission line in Vietnam’s central province of Ninh Thuan. The aforementioned line is the first 500 kV line to be constructed by a private firm in the country.

It is a part of the larger 450 MWp Trung Nam Thuan Nam solar power project, which also includes substations and power lines, with a total investment of VND12 trillion.

The substation comprises two transformers designed and manufactured by the German multinational conglomerate, Siemens Energy, with a total capacity of 1,800 MVA. The power transmission line, panning out an area of 17 km, connects the Thuan Nam district and Tuy Phong district in central Binh Thuan province.

Once put into operation, the project will materialise the government’s resolution to turn Ninh Thuan into the country’s renewable energy hub by easing the transmission overload that has adversely affected the generation by several power plants in the region.
