Project Update

735 kV Micoua–Saguenay Transmission Line Project, Canada [free access]

November 5, 2020

Developer:  Hydro-Québec

Project details and status: A new power line is being planned by Canada’s Hydro-Québec to help maintain the reliability of the Hydro-Québec transmission system in the face of increased power flow along the lines in the Manic–Québec corridor towards the major load centres.

The scope of work entails the construction of the 262-km, 735 kV Micoua–Saguenay transmission line between the Micoua substation in the Côte-Nord region and the Saguenay substation in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region in Quebec, Canada.

Locweld—a transmission tower and substation structure manufacturer headquartered in Québec—has been awarded the USD50 million contract to erect the lattice transmission structures for the power line.

The line is scheduled for commissioning in 2022.
