Latvia’s state-owned transmission system operator (TSO) Augstsprieguma Tikls (AST) is planning to invest more than EUR50 million in the upgradation of power supply in Vidzeme, during 2020.
As reported, investments will be made to complete construction of the third 330 kV Estonia–Latvia interconnection and upgradation of high voltage substations, etc. The largest investment of EUR42 million will be made in the construction of a 330 kV power transmission line between the Kilingi-Nōmme substation in Estonia and the Riga combined heat and power (CHP)-2 plant in Latvia, which is a crucial part of the interconnection.
The line stretch in Latvia reaches 176 km, and the total cost of the of the project is EUR84 million, including 62 per cent as co-funding from the European Union’s (EU) Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) instrument.
