Siemens Energy to build grid stabilisation stations in Sudan [free access]

March 30, 2021

Recently, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and Sudanese Electricity Transmission Company (SETCO) have awarded Siemens Energy with a contract for building two grid stabilisation stations in Sudan, to stabilise the grid and ensure a reliable flow of power from Egypt to Sudan.

The grid stabilisation stations will use Siemens Energy’s static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) technology, which will strengthen the power grid by providing reactive power compensation and dynamic voltage support.

One of the two stations will be established in Dongola—the capital of the state of Northern Sudan, and the second in the town of Merowe (where the Merowe High Dam is located).

The works on the contract have commenced and are expected to completed within two years.
