Brazil to generate BRL225 billion from energy tenders in 2021 [free access]

May 17, 2021

Brazil’s Ministro de Minas e Energia (MME) or Ministry of Mines and Energy, announced that the electricity power, and oil and gas tenders will be launched in 2021, which are expected to generate around BRL225 billion in investments.

Of the total capex, BRL355 million would be related to the power supply projects that were contracted by Brazil’s energy regulator, Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica (ANEEL) in April this year under the second tender for the isolated system.

Another BRL3.2 billion investment is expected to be mobilised through two power transmission auctions to be held in 2021. In addition, an exclusive transmission auction will be held for Amapá state in order to improve energy security, as the region suffered a major blackout in 2020.

Another BRL21 billion will result from the new and existing energy auctions scheduled to be carried out this year.
