SEC awards transmission contracts to Saudi companies [free access]

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has awarded transmission contracts to local players — Trading Development Partnership (TDP), Al-Babtain Contracting Company and Alfanar Construction, cumulatively valued at SAR924 million.


TDP has bagged a SAR548.4 million contract for the installation of 380 kV underground cable (UGC) associated with the substation 9098. The contract broadly involves the design, supply and installation of 47-km-long, 380 kV cable circuits [comprising of 2,500 sq. mm copper conductor, super clean-cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables circuits], along with all required joining terminations, accessories, and a cable tunnel with associated civil works. The duration of the contract is 29 months from the date of award.


Al-Babtain has bagged a contract worth SAR296 million for the construction of the 380 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) switching substation 9098. The facility will be equipped with — 380 kV GIS; 380 kV Hybrid GIS; 13.8 kV switchgear; 2.5 MVA, 13.8 kV/400 V-230 V station service transformers; 380 kV, 100 MVAr Reactors; high voltage (HV)/medium voltage (MV) power cables and terminations; alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) auxiliary power supply; outdoor switching equipment; control/protection system; substation automation system (SAS); communication system; fire protection/detection/alarm and safety system; civil/structural/mechanical works; and a High Commission for Industrial Security (HCIS) system. It also includes the expansion of the 9053 bulk supply point (BSP) by providing 380 kV hybrid GIS; 100 MVAr, 380 kV reactors and associated modifications. The duration of the contract is 27 months from the date of award.


Alfanar Construction bagged a SAR42.4 million contract for the expansion of the 230 kV Ibn Zahr  substation. The contract includes the expansion of 230 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS); gas-insulated bus duct, surge arresters, undertaking associated 230 kV cabling; and addition/modifications of protection, control and telecommunication systems. It also includes construction of 230 kV overhead transmission line (OHTL) [approximately 500 m long]. The duration of the contract is 17 months from the date of award.


The respective contractors are required to undertake the design, engineering, materials procurement, quality management, factory inspection/testing, transport and delivery to site, installation, construction, site inspection, testing and commissioning, and all associated work and services until final handing over of the facilities in a satisfactorily working and operating condition.
