Ibama issues license to Manaus–Boa Vista Line in Brazil [free access]

Brazilian environmental enforcement agency Ibama has issued a license to the Manaus–Boa Vista transmission line owned by Brazilian state-owned Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (Eletrobras) and private energy sector holding company Alupar Investimentos SA. With this, the developers can initiate construction works on the project. have received a license from

 

The project comprises the 715-km 500 kV Engenheiro Lechuga–Ecuador-Boa Vista line and associated substations. 120 km stretch of the line will cut across the protected Waimiri-Atroari indigenous reserve.

The line, tendered in 2011, was required to be in operation in 2015. But environmental concerns regarding energy security for Roraima, held up the project. The completion of the project is now expected by 2024.
