SolarPro announces USD10 million for Texas grid upgrades [free access]

December 15, 2021

Austin-based Solar Proponent LLC (SolarPro), a utility-scale solar-plus-storage (Solar+Storage) developer focused on the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market, announced that it has made significant advances in its 6 GW Solar+Storage development portfolio, with the aim of enabling several large plants to be fully operational by late 2023 to early 2024.

In October 2021, SolarPro reached an interconnection agreement with ERCOT and posted a USD10 million initial security on the 345 kV portion of its Lunis Creek Solar project in Jackson County. The solar project, with a capacity of 765 MW and undecided storage capacity, is expected to be operational between 2023 and 2024.,

The company has to contribute to funding upgrades in order to connect its massive utility-scale solar installation to the ERCOT grid. With the latest agreement, the developer secured 480 MW of capacity on the 345 kV South Texas Project–Angstrom transmission line. Further, it is in the process of increasing this by 600 MW through a smaller 138 kV transmission project. The upgrades will connect to projects with a total capacity of about 1 GW, with plans to add 600 MW line in the future.
