South Korean Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company (Hyundai H&C) has awarded two contracts worth SAR292 million to Saudi-based Al Yamamah Steel Industries Company for the supply of steel towers for the construction of electricity transmission lines for a key project on the Saudi/Egypt border.

The first contract includes the supply of steel towers for the construction of 380 kV line between the new Afif and Mahd bulk supply points (BSPs), while the second includes the supply of towers for the construction of Phase 3 of an interconnection project between the Saudi Arabia and Egypt in the western region.

In October 2021, Hyundai E&C won the Lot ‘500 kV high voltage direct circuit (HVDC) overhead transmission line (OHTL) Midpoint between Madinah and Tabuk up to Madinah Portion III’—one of the three lots of the Saudi Arabia–Egypt HVDC interconnection.
