Energy Gateway South Project, US [free access]

June 1, 2022

Developer: Rocky Mountain Power (RMP), a subsidiary of PacifiCorp, which is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy

Project details and status: As part of Energy Gateway Transmission Expansion, the company plans to construct a 500 kV high voltage transmission line, known as Gateway South (Segment F), which will extend approximately 400 miles (643 km) from the planned Aeolus substation in south-eastern Wyoming to the Clover substation near Mona, Utah.

In January 2022, according to a company filing in the US District Court for the District of Colorado, Cross Mountain Ranch LP and Colorado Cattleman's Agricultural Land Trust have come to a settlement and agreed to grant necessary easements to construct a section of PacifiCorp's Gateway South project subject to the US Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service approval of applications to waive interest in the easements. As a result, the company requested that the case be administratively closed until the end of 2023 to ensure that settlement conditions are resolved before the case is dismissed. The company hopes that all contingencies will be resolved in 2022 itself.

In May 2022, the Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) approved the certificates of public convenience and necessity (CPCN) for RMP to proceed with construction of the project. The approval took two years after submitting the application.

Further, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issued the final approval for the project granting permission to start construction.

RMP plans to start construction in June 2022 and the project is expected to enter service in late 2024.
