Chilean CEN awards 26 grid expansion projects [free access]

Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional (CEN) or the National Electric Coordinator of Chile has awarded the construction, execution and operation of 26 grid expansion projects and declared corresponding processes for 12 projects void. Under its Exempt Decree 185/2021, CEN invited bids for 38 projects with an estimated worth of over USD162 million in November 2021.


The winning bidders are Andaluza de Montajes Electricos y Telefonicos SA (won three lots), Cam Chile SpA (eight lots), Elecnor Chile (one lot), Ingenieria Agrosonda SpA (one lot), B. Bosch S.A. (two lots), Cavalla Construcciones y Montaje (one lot) and Sistema de Transmision del Sur S.A. (one lot).


The two largest lots were for new substation reactive compensation equipment requiring an investment of USD26 million (awarded to Ingeniería Agrosonda SpA), and a new substation reactor, substation expansion and a 2x220 kV second power line circuit with an investment of USD20 million (awarded to Cam Chile SpA).


These works are for substation expansion and increased power line capacity.
