The USD7 billion Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) project, designed by Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) in 2008 to enhance transmission capacity of the region by 18,000 MW for the growing renewable energy generation in the region, is likely to be completed by the end of 2013. Once completed, the project will increase the transmission capacity of the region by 50 per cent.
