At present, the East African region lags far behind other African regions in terms of per capita power consumption. The key reason is the limited power generation capacity in the region, which is also restricting the development of other economic sectors. At 3,8736 MW, the East African region has the second lowest power generation capacity in the continent, after only Central Africa.
