Under this project, Appalachian Power's affiliate, AEP West Virginia Transmission Company, plans to rebuild about 52 miles (83.72 km) of 138 kV transmission lines in Kanawha Valley. The majority of the work will take place between the company's John Amos Plant and its Turner and Cabin Creek substations, with a key loop in the Cross Lanes area and another in the Kanawha City area. These facilities are about 40 years old.
