The project was proposed by CMP to maintain the reliability of the Maine transmission system network in light of the rising power demand in the region. It represents the first major upgrade of Maine's power grid in more than 40 years. It aims to export power to the southern parts of New England and spans 75 communities from Eliot to Orrington.
