As per Rwandan officials, the country’s portion under the Nile Equatorial Lakes (NEL) Interconnection Project, which aims to link the electricity grids of the five NEL countries—Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, the DRC [eastern part] and Rwanda, has been stalled since 2017 due to various challenges.
