The project is also known as the La Crosse–Madison 345 kV transmission line. It involves the construction of a new 160-180-mile (257.6-290-km), 345 kV transmission line from Xcel Energy’s proposed Briggs Road substation near Holmen in the La Crosse area to ATC’s North Madison substation in the town of Vienna and continuing to ATC’s Cardinal substation in the town of Middleton in Dane County.
