To ensure critical electrical infrastructure, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has instructed the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) to prepare Version 5 of cyber security mandates by the first quarter of 2013 as per the guidelines of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
