As of December 2016, the United States (US) had an estimated 1,184 GW of installed capacity, of which 43 per cent was based on natural gas, 25 per cent was coal-based, 9 per cent each was hydro- and nuclear energy-based, 7 per cent was wind energy-based, and the remaining was based on other energy resources.
