Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Limited (SHETL), a subsidiary of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), the second largest electricity generator across the UK and Ireland, has invited contractors to submit prequalification bids for the installation of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) link between Caithness in north Scotland and an offshore facility in Moray Firth in order to reinforce the Scottish transmission system.
